STACEY KENT & DANUBIA BAND

2023. May 17. 20:00 Erkel Theatre

Jazz singer Stacey Kent, who is loved by millions around the world, will come to Budapest in 2023 with a special, Brazilian-style concert. His career is characterized by a Grammy award nomination, million-selling albums and sold-out concerts. Most of Stacey Kent's songs were composed by her saxophonist husband, Jim Tomlinson. As a lyricist, she also worked with English, French and Portuguese writers, but the Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro also wrote texts for her.
According to Kazuo Ishiguro, “Stacey's vocals never let you forget that the songs are about people. The protagonists of the songs come alive with his voice so much that sometimes you have to remind yourself that it's just voices on the record. He does with his voice what the finest actors on the screen do, when they convey complex nuances of personality and emotion through the subtle vibrations of their faces and postures. She is the great jazz diva of our time".
Stacey Kent will be joined at her concert in Budapest by the Danubia Orchestra, who have a common dream: to bring together people who are far apart in terms of space, worldview, and age, to connect them with the power of a common passion, the passion for music.

TABOOS AND SECRETS IN MUSIC WITH A CONDUCTOR - ONLINE - WEBINAR BY KRISZTIÁN BALASSA

It must have occurred to many that there are concerts where beautiful people dressed in elegant clothes play "serious music", while at other concerts the audience dances along with the band to crazy rhythms. Why did this habit develop? And when should you clap between classical music movements? Why does the singer sing a long aria before she dies? And why does the conductor wave if the orchestra is looking at the sheet music all the way through? Not to mention what makes a piece of music "good"? What should we do if we didn't like what we heard? What should we pay attention to when listening to music? Furthermore, how should we listen to contemporary music? Is it important that what we hear is beautiful? How does theater music differ from concert programs? What about the soundtrack? And the main question: what goes on behind the scenes?

Performer: Balassa Krisztián conductor

After the presentation, participants can comment and ask Krisztián questions. We end the evening with a conversation.

#KUKORICAJANCSI - NEW PIECE BORN FROM PETőFI'S JOHN THE VAILLANT

On June 3, the Gyula Szepes Cultural Center and JP Production #kukoricajancsicímű play will be presented. Krisztián Balassa made a new musical stage adaptation of the narrative poem Sándor Petőfi János vitéz . The special feature of the performance is that it features today's hits, and on stage we can meet several artists known from the Budapest Operettszínház.
As the title of the show suggests, the play primarily wants to speak to today's young people, in their language. This is also confirmed by the JP Production recommender: “Imagine that there are two worlds! In one, you are a lonely loser, you can't find your place and you don't know the right answers to the questions. In the other, you are the hero who easily overcomes all obstacles, defeats evil, and receives his due reward. Just press a button and all your dreams will come true, an endless series of adventures awaits you - but is it worth leaving reality in return? Is it worth leaving behind the only person who was kind to you?” But what does all this have to do with János the brave? – the debut performance at the beginning of June shows, as well as the answer to the question of which tracks were included among the hits of Bagossy Brothers Company, Bohemian Betyars, Kelemen Kabátban and Gabi Tóth.

CSONGOR, TÜNDE AND THE PATHFINDING CONDUCTOR
– CONVERSATION WITH KRISZTIÁN BALASSA

Krisztián Balassa is one of the most colorful personalities of Hungarian cultural life - in addition to his successes as a conductor, he surprised the audience with an excellent volume of short stories that tended to the absurd at the end of last year, but as if the "Marionette Phenomenal" was not enough for him, he wrote the script for the upcoming cartoon adaptation of Csongor and Tünde too.

MOZART! MUSICAL AT THE PETőFI THEATER IN VESPREM

How can one stand up from a vulnerable situation, how can one preserve oneself, without giving up one's principles, if necessary, going up against the world for the sake of art? The work is based on authentic literary materials and correspondence, and is a particularly educational work, the outstanding value of which for us is that the author is Hungarian, Sylvester Levay, and it is being presented in this form at the Petőfi Theater in Veszprém with his special permission for Hungary.

IBOLYA OLÁH WON THE SONG FINAL ON SATURDAY WITH I WILL NOT SELL IT.

In the final broadcast of Dal 2022, the competition songs will be performed accompanied by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. We asked the conductor Krisztián Balassa about the preparation process.

In the finals, after the productions were announced, four artists and songs remained in the competition with the jury's scores: Oláh Ibolya and Nem adom el with 38 points, Subtones (Nem šegít más) and Third Planet (Táncol a világ) with 22 points each, and Solére- from Másért with 16 points.

Oláh Ibolya was recognized as Song of the Year 2022, as well as Song of the Year 2022 at the Petőfi Music Award. CONCERT OF PÉTER MÜLLER'S SZIAMI ANDFRIENDS AND THE ÓBUDA DANUBIA ORCHESTRA - CONDUCTED BY KRISZTIÁN BALASSA

Péter Sziámi Müller, an emblematic figure in the history of Hungarian pop music, the frontman of the URH, Kontroll Group and the Sziámi bands operating under different names and lineups, is seventy years old. On this anniversary occasion, his current formation, Müller Péter Sziámi AndFriends, supplemented by the Óbuda Danubia Orchestra, and enriched by former fellow musicians and other distinguished guests, will perform the musician's popular old hits and completely new compositions as they have never been performed before.
Péter Müller Sziámi Müller wrote and sang the lyrics of many much-cited compositions during the less than half a year of the URH's operation, and then continued this activity in the also short-lived Kontroll Group, with even more memorable songs, and later with the various Siámi formations of the second half of the eighties and the became one of the defining alternative figures of the nineties, enriching Hungarian rock music with more timeless compositions. These are sung along with quite a few newer songs.

BOOK SHOW WITH ANNA NEMES - SPIRIT FM

Guest of today's Könyvmustra:

Krisztián Balassa, conductor, writer, screenwriter

Anna Nemes is not only talking about the book Marionette Fenomenál today, but also about what defines our identity in our own work, why someone writes a screenplay during a pandemic, and about the fact that the promotion of reading is not even a modern achievement.

We will talk about the Film Institute, Csongor and Tünde, the almost obsessive corrections to the text of the book. About the importance of awards, receiving criticism, the flawed novel, the antipathetic characters in the book and Sanyi, the lovable character. We will talk about the kidnapping of Hungarian words and whether there is always a price for getting answers to certain questions? Finally, we will also discuss why it is good to be free.

Come-come! Anna Nemes is waiting for you tonight at 8 pm on 92.9 and online atwww.spiritfm.huwebsite.

PUBLIC LIFE HAS NEVER BEEN SO FUNNY

(Review by Felicia Korcsmáros)

The absurd has never been so realistic. The first literary work of conductor Krisztián Balassa has been published, which is one of the most enjoyable readings we have come across recently.

The VIII. we walk in the district, every street, square, statue, building is familiar, yet somehow seems very foreign. People are our old friends while we are seeing them for the first time. We walk in the present, but we are confronted by the past, which romanticizes dystopia hand in hand. It doesn't even romanticize, it rather absurdizes, and although there is no such word, this is the most realistic creative expression that can be used to describe how it plays with us a Marionett Fenomenál című new Hungarian work .

KRISTIÁN BALASSA WROTE LAST YEAR, BUT PERHAPS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING BOOKS OF THE DECADE.

A MOVIE IS BEING MADE OF ATTILA DARGAY'S CSONGOR AND TÜNDE

Produced by Cinemon Entertainment, which has also produced successful international productions, under the leadership of producer Réka Temple, directed by Csaba Máli and Zsolt Pálfi, and supported by the National Film Institute, the movie CSONGOR ÉS TÜNDE is being made from Attila Dargay's plans. The animation studio Ördögség made the first teaser of the fairy tale of the addition. The director of the cartoon, which is made using traditional 2D animation technique, is Csaba Máli, one of the last Dargay students, and Zsolt Pálfi (Lengemesék, The Adventures of King Solomon). A Csongor és Tünde a is being produced with a HUF 570 million grant from the Film Institute, based on a script by Krisztián Balassa, and is scheduled to be shown in cinemas in the fall of 2024.
